Our Policies
Everything worth knowing before you bring your vehicle in — how scheduling and drop-off work, how we quote and diagnose, what our warranty covers, our tire policies, and which vehicles we service.
Scheduling & Drop Off
- Appointments. You can drop off your vehicle at any time, but to ensure the fastest service we highly recommend making an appointment. We can't guarantee walk-in work will start the same day you drop off.
- Rescheduling. As a courtesy, we ask that you give us 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, when possible. Use the link in your confirmation email or text, or just call us.
- Hours. Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
- Drop-off. You can drop off your vehicle any time using our key drop. If you drop off outside business hours, your vehicle is at your own risk until our staff formally checks it in.
- After-hours tow-ins. Accepted. Drop your vehicle as close to the gate as possible, at your own risk, and put your key in our key drop. If you're unable to park within sight of the shop, please leave us a message — call, text, or voicemail — letting us know where you've left it.
- Pickup. You can pick up your vehicle during business hours, or after hours only if you've pre-arranged it with us. If you need help finding our key drop, please call the shop.
- Storage fees. A daily fee applies, starting 72 hours after we complete the authorized work and notify you.
- What to bring. Just your keys. We have your information from booking — if you have concerns to discuss, jot them down so you don't forget.
- Parking. Park in any open spot near our front entrance and our team will move your vehicle to the service bay.
- How long to plan for. Plan to leave your vehicle for at least half a day; most services take 2–6 hours depending on what's needed. We'll give you a more specific estimate after we inspect it. If you need your vehicle back by a certain time, tell us at check-in.
- Waiting at the shop. You're welcome to — our waiting area has free coffee and Wi-Fi — but we recommend dropping off, since most services take several hours. We'll keep you updated by text so you can go about your day.
- Updates. We'll text you when we start inspecting, when results are ready, and when your vehicle is ready for pickup, along with a summary of what was done, your total, and pickup instructions.
- Adding concerns after drop-off. Call us or reply to any text we send. We're happy to look into additional concerns during the inspection.
- Towing. We don't operate a tow service, but we recommend Ray's Towing.
Estimates & Diagnostics
- Written estimates. No charge, and your estimate is valid for 3 months, subject to parts pricing changes.
- Standard (“canned”) jobs. Common maintenance services — oil changes, brake jobs, and similar — run at standard, predetermined rates. Just ask at booking or during your inspection for the current rate.
- No work without approval. We won't do anything beyond what you've approved, and we'll call you in the event of immediate safety issues.
- Inspections. An inspection is included in our basic service and is also available on its own.
- Initial inspection fee. Waived upon approval of the proposed repairs.
- Diagnostic fees. They depend on what we're diagnosing. A general diagnostic covers drivability and check-engine concerns. An advanced diagnostic is a separate service for EVAP, electrical, and parasitic-draw concerns — those are not covered by the general diagnostic. We also offer coolant pressure tests, charging/starting/battery tests, A/C diagnostics (which vary with the type of refrigerant), and code scans. We'll quote you before any diagnostic work starts.
- Oil change pricing. It depends on your vehicle and how much oil it takes, so we'll give you an exact quote before any work starts. Our Combo Wombo oil change includes a tire rotation, wiper replacement, and full safety inspection at no extra cost.
- Alignments. Offered.
- DEQ readiness check. A fee applies, and a separate Oregon DEQ state fee applies either way.
- DEQ eligibility. Your vehicle must be model year 2006 or newer, with no active check-engine light, to qualify for a DEQ readiness check.
- If you can't do everything at once. We'll help you prioritize — safety items first, then we can schedule other work for later.
- Customer-supplied parts. We don't install parts you supply yourself.
- Payment. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, cash, and checks.
- Financing. Available through Affirm, Klarna, and SunBit.
Warranty
- Parts & labor. Covered for 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, on most parts we install and the labor to install them.
- Shorter terms. Seals and gaskets carry a 90-day warranty. Internal engine components, internal transmission components including the clutch, and differential repairs — along with their associated gaskets and seals — are covered for 1 year.
- Manufacturer warranties. Individual parts may carry their own warranty that is longer or shorter than ours; batteries, for example, typically carry a 5-year manufacturer warranty, though this varies. Ask your service advisor for the exact term on a specific part before you buy.
- Nationwide coverage. Our warranty is honored nationwide. As a NAPA AutoCare Center, a repair done here is recognized at member shops across the country — contact us and we'll direct you to the nearest shop for service.
- Not covered. Damage from abnormal use, misuse, neglect, accident, alteration, or tampering by anyone other than York Auto staff. Any non-warranty service you order at the same time as warranty work is billed separately.
Full terms, including the complete list of covered systems, are on the Warranty page.
Tire + Road Hazard Warranty
Applies if you bought your tires from York Auto — original purchaser only — for 1 year from the purchase date. You'll need to rotate, balance, and inflate your tires as your vehicle's manufacturer specifies to keep the coverage in force.
- Flat repair. Free at York Auto if the tire can be safely repaired per manufacturer guidelines. If you're 25 miles or more from the shop, another facility can do the repair and the plan covers part of the cost — the Warranty page has the exact amount.
- Replacement. If a road hazard makes a covered tire unserviceable in the first 25% of usable treadwear, it's replaced at up to the full original selling price. After that, you're charged for the tread you've used (prorated), plus taxes, mounting, balancing, and other fees. A tire worn to 3/32" is considered worn out and isn't eligible.
- Not covered. Vandalism, accidents, commercial use, racing, off-road use, and snow chains or studs. Treadwear proration doesn't apply to Ultra High Performance (V-rated and above) or Light Truck (LT) tires, and excludes tires worn prematurely by misalignment, worn or defective suspension, over- or under-inflation, or lack of rotation.
- TPMS. Vehicles with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System may incur additional cost on rotations, flat repairs, and replacements for the extra labor to reset sensors. This warranty doesn't cover TPMS sensor damage caused by a tire failure or flat.
Full tire and road hazard terms are on the Warranty page.
Tire Policies
- AWD / 4WD. Your four tires must be within 3/32" of each other in tread depth; if they're not, we replace all four together — no exceptions.
- FWD / RWD. You can replace in pairs. New tires always go on the rear axle.
- Repairs. We'll do a maximum of 2 repairs or patches per tire; a 3rd repair means replacement. Tread-area punctures only.
- Mismatched tires. We advise against mixing brand, model, or speed rating, but we won't refuse the service if that's what you want — we'll just document it on the repair order.
- Minimum tread. 3/32" or less is considered worn out. We won't align or rotate your tires at or below that threshold.
- Tire age. If your tires have a DOT manufacturing date 8 or more years old, we consider them unserviceable and will need to replace them before related services.
- Used tires. We don't sell or install used tires, except for seasonal swaps between your own winter and summer sets.
- Stock and ordering. We keep some tires in stock and in most cases can have tires delivered same-day.
Vehicle Eligibility & Service Limits
- Makes and models. We service all makes and models, foreign and domestic, cars and light trucks alike.
- Not serviced. Motorcycles, exotic vehicles, large RVs (Ford Transit conversions are fine), specialty vehicles, significantly modified vehicles, Jaguar, Range Rover, and Land Rover.
- Diesel vehicles. We service diesels for regular maintenance only — oil changes, tires, brakes, and suspension work.
- Electric and hybrid vehicles. Serviced by our ASE-certified technicians. EVs and hybrids receive special consideration during diagnostics.
- Salvage / rebuilt titles. Vehicles with a title status reflecting compromised integrity are not serviced.
- Performance modifications. We don't offer performance modification services at this time.
- Pre-purchase inspections. Offered — ask when you book.
- Rideshare inspections. Our ASE-certified technicians are qualified to perform Uber, Lyft, and Turo inspections.
- Active recalls. If we identify an active manufacturer recall during your visit, we'll let you know and point you to the dealership or the NHTSA recall lookup. We don't perform recall repairs ourselves.
- Declining a safety-critical repair. If you decline a repair flagged as safety-critical, we document it on the repair order and you'll sign a release waiver before we return your vehicle.
- Refusal of service. We may decline to service you for mistreatment of our staff, creating an unsafe work environment, or unpaid balances.
